Political directorate

The Ministry is headed by the Federal Minister of Justice, Dr Marco Buschmann. As a member of the cabinet (along with the Federal Chancellor and the other government ministers), he is involved in the Federal Government's decision-making process and bears political responsibility for the Federal Ministry of Justice’s remit. The Minister is supported by Parliamentary State Secretary Benjamin Strasser and State Secretary Dr Angelika Schlunck. The Parliamentary State Secretary is particularly responsible for fostering links with the Bundestag, the Bundesrat and the political parties, while the State Secretary – as the top civil servant within the Ministry – represents the Minister both internally and externally.

Dr Marco Buschmann has headed the Federal Ministry of Justice since December 2021.
